Impact DuPage Completes 2018 Community Assessment

Fri August 3, 2018

DUPAGE COUNTY-Every three years, Impact DuPage, a multi-sectoral group of community partners, conducts an assessment with residents to update health-related data and address the needs of the community. Impact DuPage is committed to creating a common understanding of community needs, gaps and priorities that will advance the well-being of the DuPage County community.

Core to the work of Impact DuPage is a comprehensive definition of health, "Well-being begins where we live, learn, work and play. Opportunities for well-being start at home, in our neighborhood and work places," from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The 2018 Impact DuPage Community Assessment Reports are now available on the Impact DuPage website.

To identify the strategic issues for 2019-2021, Impact DuPage used data collected between January and April 2018 from the following:

·         Landscape Review: An assessment of over 1,500 residents was conducted in the spring of 2018 to learn the perceptions about quality of life, health concerns and risky behaviors, what to improve, and the greatest strengths of the county.

·         Local System Assessment: In April, 63 community stakeholders gathered to evaluate how well our system is performing and opportunities for improvement.

·         Forces of Change: A highlight of the trends, issues and factors facing residents were determined from meetings with 11 community groups.

·         Community Profile: This measurable data about the current health status, quality of life, and risk factors are compiled using the Location Report Builder Tool on the Impact DuPage website. In June and July 2018, the Impact DuPage Steering Committee met to identify strategic issues to address over the next three years that will advance the well-being of our community.

Based on data collected from the most recent county-wide assessment, the top three strategic issues and the questions guiding them are:

·         Health Status Improvement: "How do we build a person-centered model of healthcare that is efficient and effective, creates meaningful access to care for all and demonstrably improves health status?"

·         Affordable Housing: "How do we develop affordable housing that meets the demographic profile of the county?"

·         Behavioral Health: "How do we strengthen prevention and treatment of behavioral health issues for residents of DuPage County?"

For the next step in the process, the Steering Committee will work with local coalitions to develop action plans for 2019 through 2021, and stakeholders across the county to advance well-being.
