DuPage and Lake Counties Partner to Discuss Mental Health and Justice System

Mon June 11, 2018

DUPAGE COUNTY-Officials from DuPage and Lake Counties are hosting a regional forum to discuss intersecting strategies with experts in the mental health and criminal justice systems.

Partners from DuPage and Lake County will share lessons learned from site visits to Fairfax, Virginia, and Orange County, Florida. Both communities have robust diversion programs, and central receiving centers for mental health and substance use crises.

The Regional Forum on Mental Health and the Justice System will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the Medinah Shrine Center, 550 Shriners Drive, Addison.

This regional conversation will include over 100 experts in law enforcement, public health, hospitals, community agencies, and criminal justice, who are working to identify ways to increase diversion and reduce recidivism for individuals with mental health and substance use issues who come in contact with the criminal justice system.

Experts from the Illinois Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health and the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority will provide recent research, best practices, and current projects in the state.

This event is a part of a Roadmaps Collaborative Learning and Action Acceleration project of stakeholders from DuPage and Lake counties, with funding from Healthy Places by Design, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Kresge Foundation.
