The holiday season is quickly approaching and most of us are looking forward to spending time with family and friends, parties and feasts. However, it is important to remember that this time of year is all about giving.
In DuPage County, many families are struggling and do not have the means to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for their families. DuPage County residents have the opportunity to help feed these needy families by donating to the Thanksgiving Basket Brigade organized by the DuPage County Health Department's Office of Risk and Emergency Management (OREM).
Residents who would like to help feed a needy family this Thanksgiving are encouraged to visit www.dupagehealth.org/giving to show their support, as well as find a list of items needed for each basket. Donations to the Operation Basket Brigade can be dropped off at the DuPage County Health Department (111 N County Farm Rd. in Wheaton). Residents will be able to determine, online, which of the following days they will be able drop off their donations.
Operation Basket Brigade will also act as an exercise for OREM to test the inventory, repackaging and shipping part of their emergency plans they would use to distribute medication during a public health emergency.
Last year, Operation Basket Brigade was able to provide 145 families with a full Thanksgiving meal. This year their goal is to provide 200 families in DuPage County with everything they need for a delicious Thanksgiving feast. With your help, OREM and the DuPage County Health Department can give families something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
