DuPage County Board of Health Announces Changes to Executive Committee

DUPAGE COUNTY-The DuPage County Board of Health recently voted to fill the Executive Committee positions of President and Secretary due to the recent loss of two longtime members.

The position of President was vacant following the passing of Linda A. Kurzawa in October, who led the Board of Health for nearly two decades.

Mr. Scott Cross, Secretary, who served on the Board of Health since 1999, recently relocated to another state which required the position to be filled.

"Linda and Scott served the residents of DuPage County passionately for many years and will be sorely missed.," said incoming President, Sam Tornatore.

"I look forward to promoting the outstanding work of the DuPage County Health Department across all of our communities.The Executive Committee is committed to working with the Board of Health to keep DuPage County one of the healthiest counties in Illinois," Mr. Tornatore said.

The Board of Health Executive Committee now includes:

• President, Sam Tornatore, J.D. A member of the Board of Health since 2015, Mr. Tornatore was recently re-elected to the DuPage County Board and serves on several committees, including Vice-Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, and Chair of the Legislative and Development Committee. In 2013, he was appointed to the Board of the Illinois Housing Development Authority, and currently serves as Secretary. Mr. Tornatore practices law from his office in Bloomingdale, he and wife Marcia are residents of Roselle and the parents of daughter Ali (Ablan).

• Vice President, Lanny Wilson, M.D. A Board of Health member since 2001, he was re-elected as Vice President, a position he has held since 2003. Dr. Wilson has practiced medicine in Hinsdale, Ill. since 1979.In 1994, Dr. Wilson was instrumental in forming the DuPage Railroad Safety Council whose mission is to eliminate deaths and injuries at railroad crossings and along railways and has been the chairman since its inception. He has served as a founding member of Access DuPage and the DuPage Health Coalition, and presently Co-Chairs the DuPage County Heroin/Opioid Prevention and Education (HOPE) Taskforce. Dr. Wilson and his wife Linnea are longtime residents of Hinsdale. Their children are Luke, Lauren (deceased) and Blake.

• Secretary, Robert S. Spadoni, J.D., FACHE. A member of the Board of Health since 2014, Mr. Spadoni is an accomplished business executive with more than 20 years of experience in healthcare organizations and has held several leadership positions with the Rush Hospital System since 1995. In 2014, Mr. Spadoni was appointed Vice President of Hospital Operations at Rush Oak Park Hospital. Mr. Spadoni, his wife Tina and four children reside in Darien. The Board of Health ensures that all state laws and county ordinances regarding the preservation of health are upheld through observation and enforcement. To this end, the Board of Health authorizes and executes any necessary health inspections and investigations in DuPage County. The Board of Health also promulgates rules and regulations that set forth minimum standards for programs and performance. It is also responsible for making health information readily available to the citizens of DuPage County. The DuPage County Board of Health strives to promote physical and emotional health; prevent illness, injury, and disability; and protect the citizens of DuPage County from environmental risk factors.
