Motivational Interviewing
Thursday, September 28, 2023
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based, person-centered, collaborative counseling or intervention style used to obtain behavioral changes by addressing any ambivalence the client may have (Miller & Rollnick, 2012). It can also assist individuals with setting and reaching their goals. MI includes collaboration, acceptance, compassion, and evocation. A provider who is using the “spirit of MI” partners with the client, accepts them for who and where they are, does this in a compassionate and caring manner, and helps to evoke the client’s own reasons for why and how to change.
