Health Insurance Coverage

How do you apply for health insurance? Visit Healthcare.gov to apply for coverage, compare insurance options and enroll in the health coverage that is best for you and your family. You can call the Health Insurance Marketplace Call Center 1-800-318-2596. TTY users call 1-800-889-4325. 

Do you need help applying for health insurance? 

The DuPage County Health Department has trained and certified in-person assisters throughout the county to help you enroll in health coverage.

Schedule an appointment:
Call (630) 682-7400 and select option 2 for scheduling and option 7 for benefitting. In-person and virtual appointments are available.

  • Appointments are available for those new to the marketplace and those who are renewing.
  • New enrollment appointments are 90 minutes and renewal appointments are 60 minutes. Please plan accordingly.
  • Evening appointments will be available.

What you need to bring to an appointment:

  1. Social Security Numbers or document numbers if a legal immigrant.
  2. Policy Numbers for health insurance plans covering any of your family/household members.
  3. Employer and Income Information is required for every member needing coverage and can include W-2 forms, pay stubs, or other wage and tax statements.
  4. Documents will be verified during the appointment

All Kids

Complete health insurance for your child and family is available. Eligibility requirements apply. 

To apply, you will need to bring the following documents to your appointment:

  • Social Security card(s) or number(s)
  • A valid photo ID, birth certificate or US Passport
  • If you are not a US Citizen, bring your LPR (lawful permanent resident) documents
  • Proof of Illinois residency
  • Proof of income for 90 days for all types of earned and unearned income (wages, self-employment, Social Security, pensions, unemployment, etc.)

Medicaid

Complete health and dental insurance for adults ages 19 to 64 is available. Eligibility requirements apply. 

To apply, you will need to bring the following documents to your appointment:

  • Social Security card(s) or number(s)
  • A valid photo ID, birth certificate or US Passport
  • If you are not a US Citizen, bring your LPR (lawful permanent resident) documents
  • Proof of Illinois residency
  • Proof of income for 90 days for all types of earned and unearned income (wages, self-employment, Social Security, pensions, unemployment, etc.)

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)

Illinois’ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides food and other necessities to low-income families. Eligibility requirements apply. 

  • To apply, you will need to bring the following documents to your appointment:
  • Social Security card(s) or number(s)
  • A valid photo ID, birth certificate or US Passport
  • If you are not a US Citizen, bring your LPR (lawful permanent resident) documents
  • Proof of Illinois residency
  • Proof of income for the last 90 days for all types of earned and unearned income (wages, self-employment, Social Security, pensions, unemployment, etc.)

Access DuPage

Access DuPage is a program to help persons in DuPage County who are without immigration status receive primary care medical services. Eligibility requirements apply. 

To apply, you will need to bring the following documents to your appointment:

  • Proof of income for the last 90 days
  • Proof of address

You will also be asked to complete the following forms:

  • Child support verification
  • Release
  • Address verification
