Benefits for Employees
Employees of the DuPage County Health Department may select from a variety of benefits to meet their needs.
Full-time employees are eligible for the following benefits.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois is our current health insurance provider. Full-Time Health Department employees may select from four medical insurance options: three preferred provider organization (PPO) plans and one health maintenance organization (HMO) plan. You may speak to a doctor anytime through the Teledoc program, which provides access to U.S. board-certified doctors through the convenience of phone or video consults.
Plan participants are also eligible for a variety of added discounts on gym memberships and other health-related products and services. They also have access to the Well on Target program, which provides a convenient, secure website with personalized tools and resources such as health coaching, health assessments, and digital tools to track health information important to you.
Vision Discounts & Insurance
A vision care discount program is available as part of the medical insurance plans. Comprehensive vision insurance is also available.
Prescription coverage is available with all medical plans and includes the convenience of a mail-order option. Staff may also use the on-site pharmacy at the Central Public Health Center located in Wheaton.
The Delta Dental PPO program allows you to visit any dentist you wish.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Flexible Spending Accounts allow you to set aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay expenses such as those not covered by medical or dental insurance, or day-care costs.
All full-time employees are provided a $25,000 life insurance policy at no cost to the employee. Supplemental coverage is available for the employee, their spouse, and their children.
Employees may elect additional accident and critical illness disability benefits.
The DuPage County Health Department offers its employees 11 paid holidays per year.
Employees earn 12 days of vacation in their first year, with increases based on years of service.
Three personal days are provided to employees on January 1st of each calendar year. This benefit is prorated in your first year of employment.
Employee health is a priority, and we recognize that employees may occasionally be absent from work due to illness or injury. Employees earn six days of sick leave per year and roll over from year to year.
Employee Credit Union
The DuPage County Employee Credit Union offers checking and savings accounts, car and personal loans, and more.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
All employees and their dependents are eligible to use the services of our EAP, which include confidential counseling, connecting to work-life balance resources and legal and financial resources.
We offer a full calendar of training opportunities throughout the year to employees, and our online learning system allows you to take additional courses that are of interest to you.
Our tuition reimbursement program provides educational assistance for employees who want to further their education by taking work-related courses that are reflective of the Health Department's mission.
Part-time employees who are budgeted to work at least 20 hours per week are eligible for the following benefits, on a pro-rated basis, described above:

Employee & Health Department Alumni Resources
Current and former employees may remotely access pay stubs and tax forms and make other updates to their employee records through the DuPage County Human Resources website.
Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF)
All employees who are scheduled to work at least 1,000 hours per year are required to participate in the IMRF pension plan. This plan is a defined benefit plan intended to help you build a secure retirement. For this benefit, employees contribute 4.5% of their gross salary. The benefit includes both a pension and disability benefits. Plan details are available at Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
457 Deferred Compensation
Similar to 401(k) plans offered in the private sector, local public employers may offer a 457(b) defined contribution plan. Employees may elect to set aside additional money from their paycheck on a pre-tax basis for retirement through a plan offered by the International City Management Association - Retirement Corporation (ICMA-RC).
