Mike Nobel is a
critically acclaimed composer who is most notably known for
his work on “Color Me Green,” an on-air environmental
awareness campaign for kids. Mike lives and writes from his
home base in Gorham, Maine. A goal throughout Mike’s 25-year
career
has been to employ the “power of song” to address a
wide variety of social issues, especially issues affecting the
health and welfare of kids. His songs feature humor, emotion,
and a rainbow of popular musical styles. His work has been
described as “utterly unique.”
In the early 90’s Mike composed all the songs for, and also
served
as co-creator of the “Color Me Green” show featured on WCSH 6 TV (NBC Affiliate) from ’93 – ’96. The campaign won the
distinguished “Best of the Best” honor at the National
Association of Broadcasters' 1994 “Service to Children”
Awards. The campaign and Mike’s songs were also featured in a
major report of the “President’s Council on Sustainable
Development” in 1997. Mike’s “Color Me Green” songs are used
in thousands of schools nationwide in classrooms, musicals,
and concerts.
Mike’s “I’m Alive!” program began in 1999 when a very
dedicated school nurse in Maine motivated him to turn his
creative energies in the direction of tobacco prevention
education for students in elementary and middle schools. From
the beginning, Mike’s effort has been to use the “power of
music” and musical theater to address this critically
important issue, in a way
that provides a fun, empowering, and
enriching musical and education experience for students.
Response to Mike’s “I’m Alive!” program continues to be highly
enthusiastic. With the generous and pioneering support of
DuPage County Health Department the program is now available
to schools and school organizations throughout the County.
