Illinois Restaurant Recognition Program

Smoke-free restaurants are on the rise!

The Illinois Department of Public Health created
a program out of concerns for patrons and workers
who are exposed to other people's tobacco smoke. This program surveys all restaurants in the county
to determine their smoke-free policies. It commends restaurants that have gone 100% smoke-free and provides a certificate for display. These smoke-free dining places are listed on the state web
site: www.idph.state.il.us

City search for Smoke-Free Restaurants.
U.S. and International search for Smoke-Free Restaurants.

What can you do as a consumer to support smoke-free dining?

Learn the health risks of secondhand smoke.

Talk with the owners of dining places you frequent. Tell them that smoke-free dining is best. Inform them of these facts:

  • Studies and sales tax data show that smoke-free policies usually boost business in the long run.

  • You may lose a few smoking patrons at first, but count on gaining new patrons who do not smoke. You will sway them from smoky eateries, once they learn about your new clean-air policy.

  • Over 500 dining places in DuPage County have gone smoke free. The numbers will continue to increase as owners realize all the good reasons to have a smoke-free dining place.

Do you know of a restaurant in DuPage County that is Smoke-Free and not listed in the Restaurant Database?
