HEALTHY FAMILIES DUPAGE
Healthy Families DuPage is child abuse prevention program involving assessment and home visitation program designed to systematically identify and support overburdened families.

What are the goals of Healthy Families DuPage?

  • To systematically assess families’ strengths and needs and refer as needed.
  • To enhance family functioning by building trusting relationships, teaching problem-solving skills and improving the family’s support system.
  • To promote positive parent-child interaction.
  • To promote healthy childhood growth and development.

Who is eligible for the program?

  • Pregnant or parenting teens (under age 20)
  • Pregnant or parenting single women, age 20-29

                * First child, to parent
                * Not high school graduate

  • DuPage County Residents
  • Baby must be less than 2 weeks old

How does someone become a participant?
Anyone enrolled in the Prenatal Program is automatically screened for eligibility. Call (630)682-7979 ext. 7676 to get an appointment.

What types of services do you provide?

* Assessment
A systematic evaluation of the individual and family strengths and stressors is completed at the home. A trained staff member conducts the conversational interview within one hour. Participation is voluntary and results are confidential.

* Referrals to Community Services
After the interview, referrals are made to appropriate community services. Referrals include:

  • Healthy Families Home Visitation Program
  • Parents As Teachers
  • Early Head Start
  • MYM/MYD Adolescent Parenting Groups
  • Family Case Management/Public Healthy Nursing Programs
  • KidCare Insurance Program for Prenatal Care and Children
  • Teen Parent Services
  • Counseling Services
  • Food Pantries
  • Clothing Resources
  • Childcare Resource and Referral
  • GED and Continuing Education
  • English as a Second Language
  • Domestic Violence Assistance
  • Car Seat Program

* Home Visitation Services
HFD offers a Family Support Worker to qualifying participants. Specially trained staff serve as mentors who make weekly home visits to parents. With the goals of strengthening families and reducing stress that can lead to child abuse and neglect, parents receive practical information on health issues, child safety and development, as well as linkage to local resources. Family support Workers are employed by the DuPage County Health Department, Greater DuPage MYM and Lifelink.
