| Seven
most common reasons parents do not immunize their children. |
 |
-
Some people believe that
if their children are healthy they do not need immunizations. Only
immunizations can prevent diseases such as measles, mumps, polio and
diphtheria. Some of these diseases can be a serious threat to your
child.
-
People think no one gets
the measles anymore. Failure to immunize can lead to new outbreaks.
-
Some parents think
childhood diseases are not serious, however, childhood diseases are
serious and can at times be fatal.
-
Some parents are unable
to take time off work to have their child immunized. At the DuPage
County Health Department immunization clinic hours are in the
mornings and evenings to make bringing your child in more
convenient.
-
Some parents believe
they cannot afford immunizations. If you are unable to afford
immunizations contact the Health Department at (630) 682-7979 ext.
7676.
-
Some parents wait until
their child is of school age. However, 80% of their vaccines are
needed by the age of 2. Most schools will not accept children who do
not have all their shots.
-
If you do not know the
recommended immunization schedule you can contact your physician or
the Health Department.
