Dental hygienist screenings, referrals to low
cost treatment, school-based fluoride mouthrinse and sealant programs are all
provided to DuPage County residents. Oral health and injury prevention
education are available for community groups and schools. For more information,

Dental Health Services Unit
The Dental Health Services Program provides
professional and personalized service for individuals and organizations of
DuPage County in an effort to promote and improve oral health.
Schools
Dental education programs are available for all grade levels, including
preschool.
Topics include:
- Function, anatomy and the importance of teeth
- Tooth decay and gum disease
- Prevention of dental disease
- Fluoride and sealants
- Smokeless tobacco
- Oral safety and mouthguards
Participation in health fairs is provided. Public
Health Dental Hygienists distribute information and involve students in various
activities to enhance their oral health knowledge.
The fluoride mouthrinse program is available to all schools in DuPage County.
Thousands of school children benefit from rinsing weekly with a .2% sodium
fluoride solution. Those who participate receive instructional inservices and
classroom demonstrations.
The sealantschool based program is available to all schools in DuPage County.
Dental screenings are provided for all
students who have returned parental permission slips. Sealant application is
done on the teeth of those students who meet qualifications and have returned
parental permission slips.
Senior Citizens
Dental hygienists are available to participate in health fairs and provide
dental informational programs for senior groups.
Oral screenings and dental care referrals for senior citizens are conducted by
dental hygienists.
Financially Limited
Access to low-cost dental care is available to individuals in need of
assistance. Oral screenings, education and/or low-cost dental referrals are
available to eligible DuPage County residents.
Long-Term Care
Dental health education inservices for the staff of long-term care facilities
are available. The subject material is designed to assist caregivers in
providing residents with optimum oral health care.
Oral screenings, education and dental care referral for the mentally and
physically disabled are available.
In coordination with special events or health fairs, information and hands on
instructions are provided to disabled individuals and caregivers to enhance
their dental knowledge and awareness.
Dental care referrals are available for individuals who are homebound.
Participants in Health Department Sponsored Clinics
Oral health screenings, education and dental care referrals are components of
Well Child and School Age Clinics conducted at various Health Department
locations.
Individuals and Groups
Dental education programs and assistance in providing an access to dental care
are available to individuals or groups in DuPage County.
