The DuPage County Health Department offers testing and counseling services that are anonymous, or confidential, and free of charge. These services are available by appointment to anyone age 12 and over without parental consent. Trained counselors meet with each person before the test is performed and offer support and assistance by:

  • Providing factual, up-to-date information about HIV Infection and AIDS
  • Providing information about the test including its purpose, limitations, risks, benefits, and interpretation
  • Helping determine the individual's risk of exposure to the virus (HIV)

  • Providing information regarding medical and support services available to anyone affected by HIV and/or AIDS, including friends and family
  • Sign language interpreters available in clinic

A sample is collected to detect possible HIV infection. A positive test indicates that a person has been infected by the virus, and may develop AIDS in the future. A negative test indicates that no signs of infection were detected.
