52 people die daily in Illinois from tobacco and secondhand smoke

T-shirt display on kick tobacco day, March 24, at Glenbard West illustrates death toll

The DuPage County Health Department's tobacco prevention staff is collaborating with students from Glenbard West High School to display 52 t-shirts on Kick Butts Day, March 24, at the top of "the hill" at Glenbard West campus in Glen Ellyn.

This campaign illustrates the number of people who die every day in Illinois as a result of tobacco and secondhand smoke. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness among teenagers of the dangers of tobacco.

The display will be available from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24. Kick Butts Day is an annual event sponsored by the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids that encourages youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against big tobacco.

All of the t-shirts collected as a result of this campaign will be donated to charity. For more information call the health department at (630) 682-7400.
