Free HIV testing Oct. 23 at Wheaton church

Thu October 7, 2010

DUPAGE COUNTY--St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wheaton continues its effort to LEAD BY EXAMPLE and increase awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  St. Paul Lutheran Church joins the DuPage County Health Department and the Mosaic Initiative by encouraging people to know their HIV status.  These three organizations are sponsoring a free HIV screening event on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The health department is providing HIV test counselors from the HIV/AIDS Program for this event.  There is no cost for the HIV screening.  The screening consists of a finger stick and a 15-minute test.  The LEAD BY EXAMPLE event is open to the public.

Nearly 100 individuals were screened for HIV last year at two LEAD BY EXAMPLE events at St. Paul.   HIV testing presents an opportunity for individuals to become educated about the virus, and routine testing helps break down the stigma that surrounds HIV.  The health department applauds these efforts and is excited to continue its partnership with St. Paul and the Mosaic Initiative at this event.

St. Paul's is located at 515 S. Wheaton Ave.  For information, call (630) 668-5953 or visit www.stpaulwheaton.org
