Southeast DuPage Health Initiative serves area of need

Tue October 5, 2010

DUPAGE COUNTY--The DuPage Community Clinic and the DuPage County Health Department are combining to open The Southeast DuPage Health Initiative, whose mission is to connect low-income residents to a full range of health services. The new Initiative will be welcomed to Westmont with a ribbon cutting and open house from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

The Southeast DuPage Health Initiative was created this year to connect low-income residents of DuPage County to a full range of low-cost or free health services, ranging from primary care services to specialty care.

"The partnerships we have built in DuPage County are stronger than bricks and mortar; they are a foundation of hope for those in need," said DuPage County Board Chairman Robert J. Schillerstrom.

"This collaboration is so important because it helps low-income residents in an area that has been underserved in the past," said Maureen McHugh, Executive Director of the DuPage County Health Department.

"The DuPage Community Clinic is so excited to participate in this partnership kickoff event.  Together we will have a much greater impact on the community than any one of us could by working alone," said Amy Gugel, Executive Director of the DuPage Community Clinic.

The Initiative is located at 422 N. Cass Ave. in Westmont, which is the Southeast Public Health Center of the DuPage County Health Department, which is donating space for the Initiative.

The Southeast DuPage Health Initiative is a project of the DuPage Community Clinic, the DuPage County Health Department, Access DuPage and United Way of DuPage/West Cook.

The southeast region of DuPage County has been identified as an area in which people have been unable to afford traditional health services or health insurance. The Southeast DuPage Health Initiative will provide critical health services to about 1,000 people this year and hopes to increase that number to 4,000 in three years.

Representatives of participating agencies, elected officials and other dignitaries will be part of a ribbon cutting program that begins at 5 p.m. Tours of the facility will be offered.
