Red Ribbon Week focuses on preventing drug and alcohol use among young people

Thu October 22, 2015

Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 23-31) will be  observed throughout DuPage County with exciting activities that focus on raising awareness of drug prevention among young people and community events that focus on preventing teen alcohol use.

The DuPage County Prevention Leadership Team (PLT) is proud to support the Red Ribbon Campaign, which is the largest and oldest drug prevention program in the nation with the following activities:

  • More than 1,400 DuPage County teachers have been provided an activity guide containing ideas on how to support Red Ribbon Week in their classrooms.

  • The PLT is partnering with the Robert Crown Center, 21 Salt Creek Lane, Hinsdale, to promote the center's Science Behind Drugs program in county schools. This program is free and 800 students have already signed up to participate.

  • The PLT is partnering with Jewel-Osco, young people from Glenbard Schools, the Robert Crown Center and Downers Grove Township to organize six "Sticker Shock" events to emphasize that preventing teen alcohol use is everyone's responsibility and it truly takes a community to teach prevention.

  • Sticker Shock events are scheduled at Jewel-Osco Stores on Oct. 26 at 2031 Main St., Wheaton, 30 Danada Square West, Wheaton and 599 E. Roosevelt Road, Glen Ellyn, and on Oct. 27 at 303 Holmes Ave., Clarendon Hills, 4 Ogden Ave., Westmont, and 1148 Ogden Ave., Downers Grove.
