The DuPage County Health Department celebrates National Public Health Week by raising awareness of the important role that public health plays in ensuring a health America.
The health department is joined in this celebration by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the American Public Health Association. This year's theme for public health week (April 6 to April 12) is Building the Foundation for a Healthy America.
Since 1995, when the first full week of April was declared as NPHW, communities across the country have observed NPHW to recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving the public's health.
"Three important building blocks in the foundation for a healthier America include physical activity, healthy eating and getting regular check-ups," said Dr. Damon Arnold, director of the state health department.
The DuPage County Health Department has public health centers located throughout DuPage County in West Chicago, Wheaton, Addison, Westmont and Lombard.
