DUPAGE COUNTY--Did you know that one out of four families have a family member who suffers from mental illness? The Suburban Chicago Interfaith Mental Health Coalition is sponsoring a conference in November to help people in the faith community when people with mental health needs turn to them.
The conference is titled: "MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OF YOUR FAITH COMMUNITY: HOW TO RECOGNIZE, RESPOND, AND REFER."
The Suburban Chicago Interfaith Mental Health Coalition will be sponsoring a conference on Tuesday, Nov. 9, for faith communities in the collar counties of Lake, McHenry, Northwest Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will.
The Coalition is an interfaith organization partnering to help faith communities and people of faith who are working with individuals and families struggling with mental health issues.
Welcome to participate are clergy and people in pastoral and spiritual care provider roles such as parish nurses, Stephens Ministers, deacons, companions, befrienders, mentors, and people of faith with an interest in the topic of mental health.
The conference will be held in the Conference Hall at Second Baptist Church in Elgin, IL.
The conference will build skills in how to:
Recognize mental health problems (reduce stigma, identify, screen, set priorities).
Respond (how clergy and their faith community can minister to those with mental health problems).
Refer (knowing resources for referrals and building personal connections to referral resources)
The fee for the full day conference is $30, which includes continental breakfast and lunch.
Register now, as space is limited and the registration deadline is Oct. 26.
