Thu December 30, 2010

DUPAGE COUNTY--The DuPage County Health Department has received a limited number of vouchers for FREE influenza vaccine from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in partnership with Walgreen's pharmacies.

Children 14 to 18 years (with parent or guardian) and adults can get a flu shot with these vouchers at Walgreen's pharmacies in the Chicago area. Children 2 through 13 years (with parent or guardian) can use these vouchers to get vaccinated at a Walgreen's Take Care Clinic.

The vouchers are available at the front desks of the DuPage County Health Department Public Health Centers in Addison, Lombard, West Chicago, Westmont and Wheaton. For information, call the Health Department at (630) 682-7400.

The vouchers will cover Walgreen's cost and administration of the flu shots. There are no other costs to the voucher recipients. These Federal vouchers are only valid for seasonal flu shots and not redeemable for other medications, products, food, store credit or cash. The vouchers are valid through April 15, 2011.

The Health Department reminds residents that there is still time to get flu shots. The peak of influenza activity usually occurs in January and February so there is still time to get protection.

For information on flu, please visit the Health Department's website, www.dupagehealth.org.

Please note: Vouchers for free flu shots are limited to persons without medical insurance coverage of any kind, including public funded health care programs, such as Medicare or Medicaid.
