Applications for AmeriCorps position now available at DuPage County Health Department

The DuPage County Health Department is currently accepting applications for an AmeriCorps position that it will be hosting May 18 to Aug. 14, 2009. The position is in the Community Health Services section of the health department.

The AmeriCorps member will be working with health educators, nurses, case managers and other staff to assist with efforts to promote access to health care, to provide health education and to support efforts to reduce the incidence of disease and promote health.

More than 250,000 men and women have served in AmeriCorps since 1994, providing needed assistance to millions of Americans to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, homeland security and the environment. AmeriCorps members serve through nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based organizations, helping to build a culture of citizenship, service and responsibility.

The Illinois Public Health Association AmeriCorps members help meet locally identified needs at health departments and health agencies across the state through community service in the following focus areas: health promotion and outreach for programs serving youth, women, children and families; volunteer coordination; and assistance with community emergency preparedness.

Members earn a living stipend of $3,000 for their 13-week period of service, as well as qualify for a $1,250 educational award.

Applications are being accepted through March 20. Interviews will be conducted by staff of the Illinois Public Health Association and the DuPage County Health Department.
