DUPAGE COUNTY-The DuPage County Health Department wants to remind residents that using an RxBOX to drop off your unused medications is a safe and easy way to contribute to a better environment.
Launched by the Health Department in 2009, the RxBOX program has collected more than six tons, or 12,460 pounds, of medications that otherwise might have been flushed down the drain or placed in the garbage.
The Health Department has partnered with 12 municipal and county law enforcement agencies in placing RxBOX collection boxes in police stations throughout the county.
The materials are collected periodically from the RxBOX locations and safely incinerated by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency using state-of-the-art technology.
Residents who are clearing out their medicine cabinets can dispose of their old medications at any of the following RxBOX locations:Addison Police Department, 1 Friendship Plaza, Addison, IL 60101
