DUPAGE COUNTY--The DuPage County Health Department HIV/AIDS Program is collaborating with Canticle Ministries, Wheaton, and Open Door Clinic, based in Aurora with an office in Elgin, to offer a volunteer training for individuals interested in working with their organizations as well as people living with HIV/AIDS. Each agency has a variety of volunteer opportunities available.
The training will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 515 S. Wheaton Ave., Wheaton. Call (630) 682-7400, ext. 7505 for more information or to sign up for the training. Training topics include an overview of HIV/AIDS, confidentiality, prevention strategies, care and support and more.
Opportunities vary by agency, but range from monthly food box delivery to eligible clients, general office work, special event staffing for HIV/AIDS awareness days, mentor/buddy to a person living with HIV and more. Each agency is also seeking people living with HIV/AIDS who are interested in serving as peer support persons to newly diagnosed individuals.
