Functions of Teeth

Teeth are used for different things.

Teeth are necessary to chew food properly, aiding in digestion.

Teeth help to form certain sounds used in speaking.

Teeth contribute to a pleasant appearance and smile.

Activities

1. Functions of teeth coloring sheet.

2. Ask children to name foods they eat. Discuss those which can be eaten without teeth and those which must be chewed.

3. Have children with infant siblings tell how many teeth the siblings have and what kinds of foods they are able to eat.

4. Ask children to say such words as thirsty, thank you, thistle, and sister, being aware of the position of the tongue and lips against the teeth.

5. Ask children to bring magazine pictures of smiling people to school. Display them, discussing the importance of teeth in facial expression. Then blacken-out some of the teeth with a crayon to demonstrate how the appearance changes with missing teeth.
