• Find and circle the dental words on the word search.
• Discuss each of the dental terms:

A.Tooth - Used for eating, talking and smiling.
B. Plaque - The bacteria that forms on teeth, gums and the tongue.
C. Floss - A thin string that removes plaque from between the teeth and should be done once a day.
D. Dentist - Visit the dentist regularly to have teeth and gums checked.
E. Mirror - A tool the dentist uses to look at teeth.
F. Fluoride - A mineral that helps strengthen your teeth.
G. Toothpaste - Used when brushing and contains fluoride to prevent decay.
H. Bacteria - Found in plaque, contributes to tooth decay and gum disease.
I. Crown - The portion of the tooth above the gumline.
J. Root - Portion of the tooth below the gum which anchors the tooth in the jawbone.
K. Deciduous teeth - First set of teeth - also called baby teeth or primary teeth. There are 20 deciduous teeth.
L. Cuspid - There are 4 total, located next to the incisors and they are used for tearing food.
M. Molar - Large double rooted tooth with bumpy chewing surface shaped for grinding.
N. Acid - This is formed when sugar and plaque combine. Acid attacks the enamel of the tooth and can cause tooth decay.
O. Tongue - Should be brushed daily.
P. Bone - Upper and lower jaw bone which holds the teeth in place.
Q. Tooth Tale - A story about teeth ( Can you make one up? )
R. Bicuspid - The tooth that is used for crushing food.
S. Chew - This is a function of the teeth and it is the first step of digestion.
T. Speech - The teeth and the tongue help to form words.
