HealthWorks

HealthWorks of Illinois is a collaborative effort of the Illinois Departments of Children and Family Services, Public Aid and Human Services to provide comprehensive health services to children in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services. This health care system is being implemented according to the service standards and financial provisions of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Program, (formerly known as Healthy Moms/Healthy Kids Program.)

DuPage County Health Department is one of the agencies designated to develop and maintain a health care network which will provide comprehensive health services for children in foster care in DuPage County.

DuPage County Health Department also will work with DCFS to ensure that the following requirements of the health care system are met:

  • An initial screening for all children within 24 hours of being taken into custody by DCFS.
  • A comprehensive health evaluation within 21 days of DCFS being awarded temporary custody.
  • Regular primary care according to the periodicity schedule of the Healthy Kids Program.
  • Specialty care as may be needed.
  • Medical case management to coordinate access to care and services.

Physician participation will:

  • Provide required screening, comprehensive evaluation, and on-going care with the right to stipulate the number of children they are willing to see.
  • Be reimbursed at the enhanced IPA, MCH Program rates.
  • Receive payment faster because of their MCH Program, participation.
  • Complete the Health Passport for which they will receive $15.00, and other provided medical forms for each visit.
  • Receive technical assistance, case management and follow-up available through DuPage County Health Department.
