Toothache:

  • Contact parent and urge prompt dental care.
  • If swelling is present, apply cold compress to outside of cheek.

Displaced Tooth:

  • Place tooth in milk, cool water or clean wet cloth.
  • DO NOT clean or rinse tooth or mouth.
  • Apply cold compress to face next to the missing tooth.
  • Notify parent to take child and tooth to the dentist immediately.

Mouth Cuts:

  • Apply direct pressure to bleeding area with a clean cloth or gauze.
  • If swelling is present, apply cold compress.
  • If bleeding does not stop readily or cut is severe, notify parent and urge immediate

Medical care.

Orthodontic Problems (braces or retainers):

  • If a wire is causing irritation, cover the end of the wire with a small cotton ball or piece of gauze and call parent to take child to dentist.
  • DO NOT attempt to remove if a wire is embedded in the cheek, tongue or gum tissues. Notify parent to take child to the dentist immediately.
  • If appliance breaks, place in an envelope. Notify parent to take child and broken section to the dentist.
