What is decay?

TOOTH DECAY DEFINED:

Each time sugar is eaten, the bacteria in plaque forms an acid. This is an acid attack. Repeated acid attacks form holes in the outer surface of the tooth causing decay.

ACTIVITIES

1. The decay equation.

2. Make a hole one inch deep in an apple without a bruise. Set it aside for several days in a paper bag. Cut through the place where the hole was made and have the children observe the effects of decay. Compare this to the decay process within a tooth.
