THE PROBLEMS

Domestic violence is a major public health problem and is the 2nd most
prevalent crime in DuPage County.
Victims experience multiple health problems as a result of abusiveness.
Nationally 3 children die each day as a result of abuse and neglect.
Abuse creates 100,000 days of hospitalization and 30,000 emergency 
room visits each year.

IN DU PAGE COUNTY DURING THE PAST 12 MONTHS

55,315 (8.4%) adults did not feel safe in their current relationship
30,291 (4.6%) adults and 13,393 (8.1%) children had been victims of violent attacks
22,389 (3.4%) adults and 5,126 (3.1%) children reportedly hit, kicked, punched or 
hurt another person
45,966 (27.8%) children reportedly were physically aggressive
