DuPage County Health Department
hosts ‘Strike Out Tobacco’ at four Chicago Bandits’ games
Health department and Bandits promote tobacco-free
message
The DuPage County Health
Department is hosting Strike Out Tobacco at the Chicago Bandits’ games on
June 30, July 1, July 2 and July 3 in Lisle.
The health department is teaming
with the Bandits to counter tobacco advertising in sports and to promote
tobacco-free sports and athletes.
Getting kids involved in sports
not only boosts their level of physical activity and self esteem, it also
lessens the likelihood that they will use tobacco, according to the federal
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The tobacco industry spends
billions of dollars each year to market the use of tobacco products and
often they use sports in their campaigns.
Please join the health department
and the Bandits as they “Strike Out Tobacco in DuPage County.” Special
guests lined up to throw out the first pitch at each game include Vince
Keenan, Illinois Academy of Family Physicians and board member of Smoke Free
Naperville on June 30, Lisle Mayor Joe Broda on July 1, Burr Ridge Mayor
Gary Grasso on July 2 and DuPage County Board member Debra Olson on July 3.
Games are held at Benedictine
University Sport Complex, 5700 College Road, Lisle. The games start at 7:05
p.m. on June 30, July 2, and July 3. The July 1 game starts at 3:05 p.m.
