DuPage County launches toll-free number
For evacuees from Hurricane Katrina

WHEATON -- As victims of Hurricane Katrina begin arriving in DuPage County, many will have questions regarding available services during this time of need. To help with those questions, DuPage County has launched a special toll-free number that will offer assistance locating health services, determining educational needs and providing information on housing opportunities.

“This toll-free number will not only assist those being evacuated to our community, it will help those who fled before the storm and are currently staying with family and friends,” said Robert J. Schillerstrom, Chairman of the DuPage County Board. “The County is committed to ensuring that those affected by this devastating storm receive the tools they need to help rebuild their lives.”

In response to the deadly storm that hit Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, DuPage County immediately partnered with the Red Cross and the United Way in order to help those displaced families who lost their homes and jobs in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Those displaced by the Hurricane, and currently in DuPage County, can dial toll free 1-800-942-9412 and speak with a live operator 24 hours, seven days a week. The County will address a variety of needs, provide information on services available and refer them to the appropriate agency.
