The Behavioral and Mental Health Services Unit:
• Began providing services for the moderately mentally ill, residents who cannot afford private care, are too impaired to meet clinical criteria for acceptance at most other agencies, but who are functioning better than the seriously mentally ill.
• Began offering psychiatric and case management services to mentally ill substance abusing clients.
• Began coordinating child and adolescent case management services with juvenile justice, education, child welfare and primary health care providers, as well as friends, extended family and neighbors.
The Community Health Services Unit:
• Began providing public health nursing consultation to child care providers in DuPage.
• Intensified outreach and education to enroll more families in KidCare, a state health insurance plan for uninsured low-income families, through a Robert J. Woods Reaching Kids Grant.
• Extended education on the importance of breast cancer screening to younger women to improve early detection rates through a Susan G. Komen Foundation Grant.
The Environmental Health Services Unit:
• Established an environmental engineering unit to monitor lead and radon levels in homes and public buildings and provide technical consultation on environmental toxicology and indoor air quality.
