Access and Crisis Services

DuPage County Health Department, Mental Health services provides out
patient and crisis services for county residents of all ages with a
severe and persistent mental illness.
The Access and Crisis Services can also provide general information
and referral assistance to community based mental health services.

Family Shelter Services serves women, children, and men in all of
DuPage County.
Family Shelter Services offers immediate safety for victims of
family violence at three shelters with a combined capacity of 43
beds, a 24-hour hotline, advocacy and counseling services in English
and Spanish for women and children, male victims and abused elderly.
Family Shelter Services also has a program specifically focused on
the needs of children, to help them deal with the violence in their
homes. Services are confidential and provided at no charge and are
available in English and Spanish. Services provided through Family
Shelter Services include, but are not limited to:
Assistance in addressing issues of education, job training,
childcare and financial planning.
A Non-residential Counseling Program for Women and Children provides
individual counseling to women, mothers’ and children’s counseling
program and a special program for teens.
A 24-hour Hotline: provides immediate access to a counselor and
serves as a gateway to all Family Shelter programs.
Court Advocacy: staff help victims to utilize the legal remedies
available for their protection by offering support, information and
guidance throughout the process. Referrals for additional counseling
and shelter services are also available.

Hamdard Center serves Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian residents
as well as residents with similar religious orientations, such as
Bosnians and black Muslims, throughout DuPage County.
Established in 1992, Hamdard Center is a not-for-profit
multicultural, multilingual health and social service agency
dedicated to serving the South Asian, Middle Easter, and Bosnian
populations of DuPage County. It provides an array of clinically
focused, culturally tailored services including but not limited to:
(1) Behavioral and Mental Health Services: a full range of
assessment and therapeutic services accessible around the clock
including psychiatric services, medication management and education,
mental health outreach, consultation available to schools,
hospitals, and law enforcement agencies; (2) domestic Violence: full
range of victim assistance and prevention including a twelve bed
residential shelter for victims and their children; (3) Clinical
Services for DCFS: Hamdard is a licensed child welfare agency and
engages in recruitment, training and licensing of foster parents,
foster home placement, family preservation, etc.; (4) 24-hour Crisis
Line: provides crisis intervention, information and referrals; (5)
Family Violence Intervention program for men who batter; (6) Adult
Day Services for Seniors; (7) Primary Healthcare; (8) Community
Outreach and Education; (9) Approved site for Doctoral and Masters
level training and internship and 40-hour DV training. All programs
and services are licensed and/or protocol compliant.

Metropolitan Family Services currently serves residents in all of
DuPage County.
Services are available to both English and Spanish speaking
residents.
Metropolitan Family Services is the largest and oldest
non-sectarian, non-profit social service/mental health organization
in the Greater Chicago Area. Services have been provided to DuPage
County residents since 1930 and include a number of child and youth
development services, child, adolescent, adult and older adult
mental health services; school-based services; education and
prevention services; older adult counseling and caregiver support
services; and family counseling services. Mental Health services
provided include, but are not limited to: screening, psychosocial
assessment, individualized service plan, various modalities of
counseling, psychiatric evaluations, medication management,
education, and case management.
Other services offered are: financial literacy and budget
counseling; Big Brothers Big Sisters, Adoption Preservation
services; and Early Childhood services. Services are office,
community and/or home-based; depending on which most effectively and
efficiently meets the clients needs.

Outreach Community Center currently serves residents of Carol
Stream; the counseling program also serves Glendale Heights and
provides services in English and Spanish (Spanish is available for
counseling and case management services only).
The Outreach Community Center is part of Outreach Community
Ministries, a non-profit, community-based social services
organization located in the western suburbs. Services provided
include, but are not limited to counseling for children,
adolescents, families, adults, and older adults; group counseling
around various needs; parenting education; psychological testing
which serves ages 5 through older adult; and case management
services. Other services of the Outreach Community Center of Carol
Stream (main office located at 345 S. President) include children’s
programs (wrap-around kindergarten, Head Start, after-school program
and summer day camp for elementary through junior high age,
tutoring, and outreach to adolescents), mentoring; Big Buddy
program; family support programs; community development and
community events; and a food pantry. The Center is open to all
residents of the communities served, from various cultural and
financial backgrounds.
Services are provided in office, community or home-based, depending
on which most effectively meet the clients’ needs.

YWCA-West Suburban Center serves women and their families throughout
the DuPage County area.
YWCA-DuPage Center is one of the largest social service agencies in
DuPage County. The YWCA provides a wide range of social services to
achieve two main objectives: to readily serve women and their
families in need and to provide those they serve with long-term
solutions. Services available through YWCA-West Suburban Center
include, but are not limited to: counseling, sexual assault
services, life-skills and employment counseling, and childcare.
Counseling services include: individual, group, and comprehensive
divorce support services, including free Legal Night. Counseling
services include alternative treatment services such as yoga,
acupressure, and stress management through guided imagery in a group
model integrated with individual counseling.

The Greater DuPage MYM currently serves residents in all of DuPage
County.
The Greater DuPage MYM organization is a sixteen year old
not-for-profit agency, whose mission is to provide parenting support
services to adolescent parents in DuPage County and adolescent
pregnancy prevention programming to eighth and ninth grade students
through local school health classes. The Greater DuPage MYM provides
a number of programs and services to promote positive parenting for
adolescent parents including three Minnesota Early Learning Design
(MELD) programs, MELD for Young Moms, MELD for Young Dads, MELD for
Young Families; a Healthy Families Illinois Program; a Parents’
Pantry and a scholarship fund.
The Greater DuPage MYM will be providing screening and education for
participants in their “Parenting Support Program”. Mental health
education will be provided for those participants as well. The
Greater DuPage MYM will not be providing any mental health related
counseling.
