Petition for Smoke-Free Places

We the undersigned:

Believe that secondhand smoke in workplaces and enclosed public places is a serious health risk to employees and the public. No one should be forced to breathe someone else’s tobacco smoke!

For every two hours you spend in a smoke-filled environment such as a restaurant, bar or nightclub, you are inhaling the equivalent of one pack of cigarettes in secondhand smoke. For those who work in these environments for an eight-hour shift, they are inhaling the equivalent of four packs of cigarettes during their shift!

We call on local municipal lawmaking officials to introduce legislation to end smoking in all workplaces and enclosed public places.

By signing this petition, you're asking your representatives to enact a law that prohibits smoking in all public places, including bars and restaurants, in order to protect the health and well being of those who work in such environments as well as those who frequent those establishments.

A comprehensive law would protect non-smokers from other people’s smoke and give many thousands of smokers the encouragement they need to give up their lethal addiction. It’s about health and it’s about time.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned
