Health Department Warns About West Nile Virus During Labor Day Weekend

Fri September 2, 2016

The DuPage County Health Department's Public Health Centers in Addison, Lombard, West Chicago, Westmont and Wheaton will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day.

The Health Department's Crisis Hotline in Behavioral Health Services will remain in operation. Clients needing immediate service can call (630) 627-1700 24 hours a day.

Activity for the West Nile virus has been high in the last week.  Residents are urged to practice the four Ds of Defense in order to prevent the contraction of the virus.

The Four Ds of Defense are (1) Drain all standing water around your home, business or yard; (2) Defend against bites by using an insect repellent with DEET; (3) Dawn to Dusk is prime time for mosquito activity and you should wear repellent during those hours; and (4) Dress with long pants, long sleeves and closed shoe toes to cover your skin.

All health department offices will reopen at their regular times on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
